This is a simple system to post
questions and comments related to class. If you are enrolled in this
class, you can log in with your first name followed by an underscore,
then your last initial. Then use your official e-mail address (before
the @) as your password. The password will not be displayed. For
example, suppose your name is John Doe, and your account name is
jdoe4@student.gsu.edu. Then you would log in as "John_D" with a password
of "jdoe4".

Missing Materials

I received my the package for my
materials on the 24th and the TA told me to come back next week for the
rest of my materials to do the lab but the day I am able to go is a snow
day

Since we had an unexpected snow day, I'll push the due date to Feb 5.

@Corey_T power cable
[Dino_C]

You don't need a power cable. You
just need a printer cable that will connect your Arduino to your
computer. The USB port will provide enough power to power your Arduino.
Lab 1

I wanted to know for the first lab
if we were supposed to strip the wires to connect on the bread board
from this cord we recieved and where we are supposed to get the resistor
from.

Don't strip any wires. The wires for
the temperature sensor should already have the wires stripped about 3
mm (or 1/8 inch) at the end. I don't recall Lab 1 asking you to use that
sensor. I'm not sure what other cord you could be talking about. Bring
it into class tomorrow and ask.
The resistor should have been with the equipment when you checked it out.

Video Length
[Dino_C]
Mar 4, 2019 at 07:40:30
I noticed that the video can be about 5 minutes in length. How much longer can it be? 30 seconds? 1 minute?

The exact length is not really the
issue, it's whether the content is flowing and engaging at a good pace.
If you need to have time limits, I think 30 seconds before or after 5
minutes is acceptable, IFF we are not aware of the time. That is, if
someone has a presentation that lasts 5 minutes and 0 seconds, but the
pace is so slow that the class is convinced that the elapsed time cannot
possibly be correct, then full points should not be given. On the other
hand, if we are so engaged that it lasts (say) 5 minutes and 45
seconds, but feels like we just got started, I don't think that is a
problem.

Is there any way that the Lab can be
pushed back till next Tuesday. I noticed last night that I never
received a temperature sensor.

Never mind...my mind's scrambled. I thought tomorrow was the 7th. I'll just pick it up tomorrow from the Lab.

hash functions
[Flaviu_T]
Mar 26, 2019 at 13:05:19
you mention using "standard
cryptographic hash function", but these algorithms are fast & should
never be used for passwords.
There's password specific hashing functions listed at
https://crackstation.net/hashing-security.htm, "To Store a Password",
which are specifically designed to be slow to compute.

Use a standard function, not one
that you write on your own. You are supposed to follow the instructions
on the web-site given in the lab, which is the same one that you
mention. Are you saying that those instructions are contradictory? If
so, we can discuss this in class.
quiz#4

hey professor weeks which chapters will be on quiz #4
Re: quiz#4
[Dr_Weeks]

Everything from the last quiz to
what we covered yesterday. We were close to the end of chapter 4 last
time, and chapters 5 and 7 are short, so we've covered part of 4, then 5
to 7.

To be clear "5 to 7" certainly includes chapter 6, which we discussed in a couple of classes.
